Foresight - insight

Each month for our bulletin we ask a member for their insight into challenges and opportunities facing the VCS (voluntary and community sector).

As a Christmas treat, we thought we'd turn the tables a bit this month and give you insights into us!

Unless you've come on training or events we've organised, chances are you won't have met any of the Foresight team. For the last month or so we've had a member of another organisation sitting with us as part of our work with subsectoral organisations. Here's what our honorary Foresighter had to say about the rest of us...

"I joined Help the Hospices as a member of the policy team in August 2007 andover the next few months I will be spending one day a week with the NCVO Foresight team.  My first impressions of the team are of a friendly bunch who have a real passion for their work.

"The 3s4 website will tell you that the NCVO Foresight team is there to help VCS organisations like hospices create effective plans with strategic insight and planning tools.  To me this means helping all of us in the VCS to understand the world around us, how it is changing and think about what we will need to do to change with it.

"Thinking strategically about what drives the behavior of organisations is very challenging - especially when you are looking at such a varied and independent minded group as hospices - but the NCVO Foresight team have been fantastic in helping a novice like me get to grips with the complexities of strategic analysis, although I’ve still got a lot to learn!

"From the short time I have spent working with the Foresight team I feel confident that together we can make a real difference to how independent hospices across England plan for the future, and I really do believe that the hospice foresight project will mean patients, their loved ones and carers will continue to have the best quality of care until the end.

On behalf of everybody here at Help the Hospices I’d like to wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy new year."
