Alive and Kicking: creating successful strategies

Alive and Kicking: creating successful strategies

11 December 2008

I hadn't been to one of these conferences before but will definitely come again.

If you're responsible for stategic decisions within your organisation, this event was for you! An inspiring, hands-on day, it gave the range of delegates the opportunity to get their organisations fit for the future, arm themselves with tips and planning tools and discover new ideas to revitalise their strategy.

A special Foresight member benefit was the chance to win a second free place, by entering our 'top tips' competition. This was won by Pat Walton, Director Social Care at the Together Trust. Her top tip for strategic planning was:

‘Start from the bottom up’.

Simple but effective! Here’s what Pat has to say about her experience of strategic planning and why this is her top tip: ‘My tip is based on the long held belief that it’s the people at the front end who have the market intelligence and understanding of the culture of the organisations we work with. This is what then helps me as a leader to develop a strategy that is relevant and modern. And more to the point if the ‘bottom’ aren’t fully engaged, then the best strategy ever won’t work!’

You can also read the opening plenary by Kate Lee from the Red Cross (please note: clicking on the link will download the word document).
